Have you noticed the town is gradually turning blue to mark this important week to raise awareness of dementia?
Businesses along Railway Approach, London Road and the High Street have been asked to turn their windows and displays blue for two weeks starting Monday 17 May. So a big ‘shout out’ to all those businesses.
A fun town trail (until 30 May) will encourage all ages to take part and spot blue items in shop windows. In addition knitted, crocheted and printed forget-me-nots (the emblem of Dementia Friends) will be displayed around the town, courtesy of the Sackville Lacemakers, East Grinstead Embroiderers, The Soroptimists and individual volunteers.
East Grinstead strives to be a dementia-friendly community and is nationally recognised as such with over 50 members of the Dementia Action Alliance in the town. But it’s good for us all to be able to recognise the signs of dementia and to find out how we can help those who may have this diagnosis.
More information and a downloadable town trail map are available on the EG Town Council website.
My husband was diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer’s and early stage Huntington’s disease. He is aware of what is going on some of the time but he refuses to bathe or do any of the things the doctors tell him. He could hardly get around because all he does is sit in front of the TV all day. He refuses to go for a walk or to a senior center and he refuses to bathe. I was beside myself as we cannot go anywhere when he is dirty and stinks. I didn’t know what to do, I could not physically overpower him and make him do things and when I ask him he tells me I am not his boss. There has been little if any progress in finding a reliable treatment. His Primary care provider introduced me to Kycuyu Health Clinic and their amazing Herbal treatments. The treatment is a miracle. the disease is totally under control. No case of delusion, disorientation, forgetfulness, making things up, hallucination, Muscle weakness, jumbled speech, loss of appetite or confusion in the evening hours.
