Opening on 13 June, The Art of Illusion: The Theatrical World of Oliver Messel, explores the life and legacy of one of Britain’s most celebrated stage designers. Set within the atmospheric house at Nymans, the exhibition reveals Messel’s extraordinary imagination and his ability to transform spaces with wit, glamour and ingenuity.

Visitors can discover more about Messel’s connections to Nymans and the glittering social circle of the “Bright Young Things”. A particular highlight is the portrait of Anne Messel, currently being carefully cleaned and restored, ready to take pride of place within the exhibition.
