Founded in 1968, East Grinstead and District Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International - the largest service organisation in the world. Lions globally support five causes: diabetes, vision, hunger, childhood cancer and the environment.
The East Grinstead Lions are a friendly, enthusiastic group of volunteers who support the local community through fundraising events and community projects.
Two popular and much-loved family fundraising events organised by the EG Lions are the May Fair and Donkey Derby; with their many stalls and varied entertainment.
During the Winter months a Wenceslas campaign is run to raise funds to support families and individuals experiencing seasonal fuel poverty.
A new venture is the East Grinstead Lions Book Shop, located on the 2nd Floor in Martell’s department store. Here hundreds of quality, second-hand books are available for both adults and children to purchase for a small donation.
All proceeds raised from fundraising activities go directly back into the community to benefit individuals, groups and organisations who are in need.
East Grinstead Lions support local Senior Citizens in a variety of ways. An annual Senior Citizens’ party is organised, providing entertainment, a tea party and much welcomed social interaction. The club also provides weekly help to Age UK with the delivery of hot meals around the local area.
The Club sponsors free PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) testing for men aged 45-80 and organises Diabetes Screening days which continue to benefit many in the local community.
East Grinstead Lions Club have given the NHS much needed support with the smooth roll out of Flu and COVID vaccines at the Meridian Hall. Once again putting into action the Lions motto of ‘We Serve’.
